PSP "2" poised for launch this year

Games industry blabbermouth says Sony has plans to unleash a revamped handheld this year.

Sony will be launching a redesigned PlayStation Portable before the end of the year, according to an analyst working in the games industry.

According to top games blog Kotaku , Colin Sebastian of Lazard Capital Markets has informed investors that a "refresh" of the hardware is on the way. He later told games industry website Next Gen that his sources have confirmed Sony "definitely has something in the works" but then got a bit vague, saying that this "may or may not" mean a change in the PSP's form factor. Honestly, what do they pay these people for?

With Sony recently chopping a bit off the PSP's price, we shouldn't expect anything to happen in the next couple of months. The smart money is on something happening late in the summer at the earliest, but certainly in time to cash in on the run-up to Christmas. We'll bring you any updates as we get them.
