PS3 price cut could be landing in March

MotorStorm and LittleBigPlanet heading to PSP

An internet leakster attending the Sony Computer Entertainment Staff Annual Briefing has revealed to one online publication that the PS3 may well be getting a long-awaited price cut next March.

SCEE President, David Reeves, reportedly took to the stage and announced that “SCEE will be getting more competitive in price from March 2009 onwards”. Having refused to cut prices in the run up to Xmas, the PS3 is overdue for a discount, and the arrival of Killzone 2 – expected in March – would seem like a sensible time to make fresh price cuts.

That’s not the only thing Sony has in store for its PlayStation brand either. The PSP is expected to get handheld version of MotorStorm and LittleBigPLanet, the latter having already spent four months in development. Media Molecule’s Alex Evans didn’t show it off first hand but allegedly promised that it was looking good already.

PS3 owners are getting a couple of big treats. Uncharted 2 was apparently shown off to the Sony employees and was looking just as good as the original. God of War 3 capped off the presentation and was believed to look absolutely stunning.

Killzone 2 was shown off, but we’ve known that was coming since before the PS3 was even born. In fact, it was actually delayed to make room for Resistance 2, so it’s probably finished, boxed up and gathering dust in a Sony warehouse somewhere by now.

We have to warn you to treat this leak with your usual dose of scepticism though. All this info was revealed by an anonymous whistleblower and Sony itself has denied all of the report, stating "We do not have anything to announce at present and we do not comment on rumour and speculation." However, all of the points raised are pretty believable; the sequels and portable versions are an obvious choice and some, like LBP PSP, have been heavily rumoured already. We reckon there’s pretty good odds of most of this coming to pass.
