PS3 goes pre-order for £550

And they're off! The first pre-orders for PlayStation 3 are being accepted online, but you'll only get it as part of a bundle, and the price is even higher than expected.

Play.com's pre-order price is £140 higher than we had originally expected for the console alone, but does include three games.

The online shop is touting the full-featured, 60-gig PS3 as part of a bundle including Formula One, Singstar and Warhawk, but says that even these could change if supplies run out.

What's more concerning is Play's open admission that there'll be a shortage, so you'll have to be quick if you want one in time for Christmas.

Of course, all that scaremongering could be a ploy to boost demand, but we'd still rather be at the front of the queue than face disappointment, even if it means smashing our piggy banks to smithereens first!
