Have Google's gaming prayers been answered by Sony?
Sony has confirmed that it’s working on a PlayStation Suite games store for Android. The new virtual emporium is set to come loaded with stacks of killer classic PSP and PSOne games which will be available across a slew of phones packing Google’s mobile OS.
Devs will also be able to get involved in creating new titles, with Sony revealing a PlayStation Certified programme to ensure titles are top notch and mobile gamers aren’t left loaded up with naff add-ons.
Sony’s Kaz Hirai said during last night’s Sony bash in Japan that the PlayStation suite would be “hardware neutral”, meaning it should work on any number of gadgets in the future. A version of the store is set to sit pretty on the newly announced Sony NGP.
Any phones using the PlayStation Suite will have to rock Android 2.3 Gingerbread. No release date has been announced either. But for now, surely this is enough to make Google think it can finally do battle with Apple in the mobile gaming stakes.
