PlayStation 3 adds BD Live
Next firmware upgrade to bring a host of Blu-ray goodies
Like a bad smell, HD-DVD has finally gone. So now it's time to see exactly what Blu-ray can do.
Well, in the next few days your PS3 will show you. And the v2.20 firmware upgrade brings more extras than a Ridley Scott battle scene, including BD Live.
BD what? Basically, you'll be able to download videos, ringtones, and interactive movie games from your Blu-ray disc. Makes DVD look like a video cassette.
Other extras include the ability to copy photos and music playlists from your PSP via USB, and use the handheld as a remote control for tunes. You'll also be able to resume playing a film from where you left, even if you took out the disc. So no more taking potshots at how far through you were, mistakenly revealing the ending, and having friends throw popcorn at our face as a result.
Marvellous. And with GTA IV out next month, there's never been a better time to buy a PS3.
