Play offers DRM free tunage

PlayDigital set to become the latest iTunes baiter, offering cheap tracks without nasty copy protection.

Play.com is weighing into the music download wars, bringing their own DRM free store, PlayDigital, to the already crowded online battlefield.

The new service will offers tunes on EMI and independent labels minus copy protection, meaning you can stick it on any player you happen to be packing.

They're also baiting Apple when it comes to track costs too. Their Top 100 most downloaded songs will cost 65p each, with albums starting at a credit card friendly £4.95.

As for the other three majors getting involved, Play has told us that they hope to have them on board soon. They'll need to get a shifty on, Amazon MP3 packs the lot and arrives on these shores over the summer.

For now though, Play is the biggest DRM free challenger iTunes has here in the UK. Here's hoping for an all out price war in a bid for our personal jukeboxes.
