Lightweight PS3 scrapped
Sony brings an end to sales of its 20GB console in North America due to demand for 60GB unit.
Sony has confirmed rumours that they are to end the sale of 20GB PS3's in North America. The size zero version of their Hi-Def console has been consistently outsold by its 60GB sibling and wasn't even offered here in Europe at launch last month.
In a statement today, Dave Karraker, Sony America's Vice President of coroporate communications said, "Due to the overwhelming demand for the 60GB model from both retailers and consumers, we have ceased offering the 20GB model here in North America.
"Based on retailer and consumer feedback, we have decided to focus our current efforts on the more popular 60GB model."
With the weightier version accounting for upwards of 90% of sales across the pond, Sony's decision isn't surprising. And if you were holding out for a slimmed down PS3 ever arriving on this island, we suggest you change your plans and consider the full beast instead.
