Panasonic preps UK Blu-Ray launch

It's called a conference in two week's time - are we be about to see our first Blu-Ray players?

Looks like Panasonic's about to deliver the first Hi-Def disc players to the UK. There's a press conference in just 14 days' time, and there'll be some serious Blu-Ray bigwigs in attendance.

Yamasaki-san, chief engineer for Blu-Ray players is going to be there, as is Minohara-san, head of global marketing for the hi-def discs.

A full-blown Blu-Ray launch would be a serious coup for Panasonic, and Blu-Ray in general, which has been dogged by reports of manufacturing trouble.

A launch would also mean a head start for Sony's Hi-Def baby, ahead of Toshiba's roll out of HD-DVD players in Autumn.

Of course, Panasonic's keeping tight-lipped, refusing to disclose the exact purpose of the event on 8 August. We'll be there though, so keep it here for all the juicy Hi-Def gossip as we get it!
