Orange to offer free iPhone 4 on pay monthly contracts

£75 handset fee dropped for £50 per month contracts

Free iPhone 4 handsets to be offered by Orange

Orange is hoping to tempt more iPhone users over to the brightly coloured network by offering free iPhone 4’s to new customers on a two year contract.

Customers wishing to take out Orange’s £50 per month price plan will no longer have to pay the one off £75 charge for Apple’s flagship handset.

For their hefty wedge on monthly cash Orange customers will get a very tempting 1200 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB worth of mobile data every 30 days. The end of the £75 charge brings the total cost of ownership of the phone to £1200, assuming users stay within their included limits.

Not wanting to leave lower-needs users out of the mix, changes have been made to the rest of Orange’s Tariffs with customers now being allowed to swap some of their inclusive minutes for more data allowance, access to Orange Maps and MMS messages. Disappointingly, however, the network provider has also announced that it’s “unlimited” Wi-Fi will now be capped at 750MB per month on BT Openzone.

Whilst there are better deals out there such as the offering of Three UK which charges £189 for a 32GB iPhone 4 on a £35 per month contract, Orange’s offer of no upfront charge is sure to temp a number of high-end and business users.
