Orange offers Nokia 5800 and Comes With Music

Will it give the download service a much-needed shot in the arm?

It's not exactly been a stunning success so far, with just 23,000 said to have signed up to Nokia's Comes With Music since its launch late last year. But it might just get a shot in the arm with the news that Orange is offering the 'all you can eat' download service exclusively on contract, throwing in the Nokia 5800 to sweeten the deal.

Both of those facts could be important to its survival and/or growth. For a start, the Nokia 5800 is currently Nokia's most successful handset, rating highly in our own hands-on too. It's also a massive step up from the original Nokia Comes With Music phones (the 5310, N95 and N96). Throw in some network subsidising too, and the future for the music download service could be as bright as the Orange logo if the marketing machine does its job.

In terms of specifics, the Nokia 5800 will be offered with the choice of five 24-month price plans, starting at just under £25 for access to the 6 million tracks plus inclusive calls and texts, rising to just over £44 for heavy phone users. It doesn't include data though, which means downloading tracks to your phone over the air will set you back 'standard mobile data prices', whatever those happen to be this week. Saying that, you can keep anything you've downloaded after the two-year contract ends, so it's swings and roundabouts really.

If you want the Nokia 5800 and Comes With Music service, go see your Orange retailer from the 29th of May onwards.
