O2 is launching a national network of free wifi hotspots which will be available to non-o2 subscribers.
Users will have to signup to the service and give their mobile number, which will be used for targeted advertising.
However, access to the 13,000 Wi-Fi hotspots set to launch over the next two years will be free.
O2 already provides premium subscribers bundled access to hotspots run by The Cloud and BT OpenZone, and this deal will remain in place while the new network is rolled out, according to o2.
