"Difficult, if not impossible," to build full Firefox browser for iPhone.
No Firefox browser for iPhone says Mozilla
Mozilla has confirmed that it is not planning on bringing a full-on version of Firefox to the iPhone, instead keeping the focus on its Firefox Home app, which lets you sync bookmarks, tabs and history to your Apple mobile.
In an official blog post, Mozilla said, “People have asked about adding more browser-like features to Firefox Home, but there are technical and logistical restrictions that make it difficult, if not impossible, to build the full Firefox browser for the iPhone.”
Instead, the post says, the focus will fall on making Firefox Home a “rich, cloud-based application”, with BlackBerry and Symbian editions both being primed. Updates to the iPhone app are set to include Facebook and Twitter info, password syncing and tighter integration with native apps like Safari and YouTube.
The move is bound to disappoint hardcore Firefox fans, who’ll need to look elsewhere now for their mobile Mozilla fix.
Is this a good move, or are you disappointed Firefox won’t be up for grabs on the iPhone? Tell us on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
