Nintendo highlights its forthcoming releases

DSi handheld heads the influx

If you've been living under a rock for some weeks, you might have missed the launch of Nintendo's new handheld, the DSi. It's the headline act of Nintendo's newly-announced spring/summer line-up.

Yes, just because we're months away from Christmas doesn't mean the gaming stops. April 3rd 2009 should already be in your diary if you want the DSi and to coincide with the launch, Wii points will become Nintendo points, because you'll also be able to buy some tasty downloads for that must-have internet-ready handheld too.

Plenty of new games for all formats too, including Rhythm Paradise (1st May) for DS/Dsi, which offers music-based fun as you tap along to the beat. If that sounds too taxing, you can always wait for Pokémon Platinum Version (DS only), which launches on 22nd May and describes itself as an 'epic adventure', throwing in wireless gaming with up to 20 players at a time. If you can find 20 friends with a copy, that is.

For the Wii, you can take part in a bit of interactive boxercise with Punch Out!!, where you follow the well-worn 'rags to riches' career path of the up and coming boxer, known here as 'Little Mac'. And to relive some classics, check out Pikmin 2 and former GameCube favourite Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, both released as part of the New Play Control! series, given a lick of paint and some new features along the way. For more on all these and more, check out the Nintendo site.
