Nintendo DSi won't be replacing DS Lite

Ninty exec wants handheld synergy

The norm in the tech world is that even the most celebrated of god-like gadgets will be scoffed at like a child at a cocktail party once the next generation comes along. Take the iPhone for example: since the 3G showed its glorious face we've all been taking it in turns to kick its predecessor around the office with pitiful expressions.

Nobody seems to have told Nintendo Exec Vice president of sales Cammie Dunaway this, though. She has recently suggested that upon the new and spangly DSi's release, it will rub shoulders on the shelves with its older brother.

Cammie says "there's an opportunity for both of them to coexist for some period of time." She also told Wired.com that the DS Lite has a heap of potential that will squeeze extra life out of the now superseded handheld.

Nintendo are apparently keen to shift yet more Lites in America, where there's still room for more sales. Therefore, although there's no word on price yet, the DSi will retail for slightly more than the Lite.
