Nintendo DS becomes eBook reader

Easy on the pocket, tough on the eye

Can't afford a Sony eBook Reader? Sick of waiting for the Kindle? Got 20/20 vision? Nintendo hears you - just as long as you love a classic.

Launching on Boxing Day, the 100 Classic Book Collection for the Nintendo DS turns everyone's favourite brain trainer into a portable library. And like all libraries, all the books date from well over 100 years back. So expect Jane Austen, Will Shakespeare and Charles Dickens rather than J.K. Rowling, Will Self or a digital version of My Booky Wook.

How does it work? Well, you just hold the handheld like a book, flipping pages with your stylus and zooming text should you need to. We think you will. In fact, even with a maximum bump in font size, we suspect serious eye strain will kick in well before the main plot line. If you can live with that, the Book Collection looks a steal at £18.
