Nintendo brings walking to the DS
Walk With Me! adds a cost to a previously-free activity
Who says gaming makes you fat and lazy? Not Nintendo, that's for sure. The company has already got us bouncing around in front of the TV with Wii Fit and now it wants us to go out and enjoy some fresh air, armed with Walk With Me!
The DS game lands in the UK in February, just in time to help us work off that extra festive weight. Armed with your 'Activity Meters' (aka pedometers), the number of steps you take is logged, then synced with the handheld at the end of each day. That means you can track your progress or set yourself targets for each day, week or month. And if you need motivation, a few themed mini games are thrown in, as well as access to a 'league table' of walkers, should you fancy yourself as a strolling super hero.
It's an admirable idea, but let's be honest, do you really need a game to get you walking? And can't you pick up a pedometer for pence these days? Take our advice - spend the money on a good pair of walking shoes instead, a much better investment in the long term than an overpriced pedometer and what's likely to be fairly average arcade-style gaming.
