Nintendo has announced it will partner with retailer HMV for the official UK launch of the Nintendo 3DS as the gaming giant attempts to take focus away from the iPad 2 which is to launch on the same day.
Revealed via an official press release Nintendo has declared HMV’s flagship London Oxford Street store will play host to the portable 3D console’s main UK launch with the eagerly awaited device to go on sale at one minute past midnight on March 25th.
With 100 other HMV stores set to open at midnight across the country and a 2,000 strong VIP event to take place for selected Club Nintendo members in London’s Old Billingsgate, the Japanese console maker is going all out on the launch of the 3DS, living up to the ‘biggest UK console release’ moniker that has been laden on the device.
Adding further incentive to lining up for a midnight launch just hours before doors open for sales of the Apple iPad 2, Nintendo has declared: "Games enthusiasts attending the midnight launch at HMV Oxford Street will not only be among the first in the UK to get their hands on their very own Nintendo 3DS, but the first 500 to purchase the console will each be able to claim a free 3DS game of their choice."
The release went on to add: "Fans attending the official launch will receive a special commemorative launch-night pack containing numerous Nintendo rewards, including a space blanket to keep them warm whilst queuing, a limited edition launch t-shirt and an exclusive Nintendo 3DS launch edition of Official Nintendo Magazine (whilst stocks last)."
