Nintendo 3DS to get the Mii?

Game designer Shigeru Miyamoto doesn't rule it out

Nintendo Wii gamers might soon be able to transfer their Miis to the 3DS.

When the Nintendo 3DS launched at E3 2010, we were already lusting after its ability to play 3D games without the need for special glasses.

Here's yet another reason (as if we needed one) to be a Nintendo 3DS owner: They could soon be Mii-capable.

Speaking to IGN, games designer Shigeru Miyamoto said that transferring Miis from Wiis to the 3DS is "something that we're definitely giving consideration to and want to continue to try to allow people to use their Miis on different Nintendo systems going forward."

This builds on the announcement at E3 2010 of Pilotwings Resort, a Nintendo 3DS game that shows Mii-like characters in screenshots.

The Miis or avatars are the gamer's likeness on Wii games and can be currently used across all Wii games. Miyamoto's words hint at the possibility of keeping the Mii brand consistent across all Nintendo systems.

The official release date for the Nintendo 3DS is 31 March 2011, although the word on the street is that we could hope for a release to coincide with Christmas.
