Nintendo 3DS out by 31 March 2011

Global roll out completed by spring of next year

Nintendo boss serves up official details on when we can expect 3D gaming minus the specs.

The Nintendo 3DS will be out across the globe by 31 March 2011. That’s the word direct from Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime, who said plans had not yet be firmed up regarding exact launch dates.

Never shy in coming forward, Fils-Aime spoke out about the plans, saying, “The reason we haven't announced a launch date or pricing is that, first, we wanted to get reaction here [E3].” He went on to say that release dates would be decided on a case by case basis, with Japan, the US and Europe all considered individually.

"The one thing, for sure, is that we will launch in all of our major markets by March 31, 2011,” he said.

It’s most likely that Japan will feel the 3DS love first, with us Europeans made to wait for our first taste of 3D gaming without glasses. But if the first impressions are anything to go by, this all new handheld is going to be well worth the wait.
