Nintendo's Wii Fit Plus jogging in this autumn

Ninty gives its fat buster an overhaul

Nintendo’s E3 appearance wasn’t just about announcing sinister new Wii peripherals. It also has some new games in store. Alarmingly, Wii Fit is Nintendo biggest game of the moment – the healthy accessory has been a regular occupier of the UK’s top ten games chart ever since launch and Nintendo says it has sold over 15 million of the balance boards worldwide in that time.

Hardly surprising that a sequel is on the way then. Well, strictly speaking, Wii Fit Plus isn’t a sequel. The balance board remains the same and most of the games content will be shared. However, Nintendo is throwing in a range of new activities, as well as new tools to make it even more effective on your waist line.

There’ll be 15 new balance games to choose from, as well as six new strength and yoga exercises. You’ll also be able to tailor your workout to include both forms of activities, as well as getting the system to make recommendations based on which area you’d most like to tone.

There’ll even be some fun to be had – a new Segway game lets you zoom across a beach, while rhythm another stimulates you mind by making you shake your flap to pop numbered balloons and solve simple math questions. Or you can fly chicken suited characters by flapping your arms. How about running through a Mario level, dodging and leaping obstacles? Yeah... if those people in gallery are the end result, we'll pass, thanks.

Wii Fit Plus will be rolling out later this year, around autumn time. It’s not clear whether the original game will be phased out at the same time, but Wii Fit Plus will be available with the balance board or as a standalone for those who already have the first version.
