Nikon launches Coolpix S1000PJ: world's first projector camera
Check out your images on the big screen instantly.
Nikon has just announced the world’s first digital compact camera to feature a projector built-in, the Coolpix S1000PJ. And the great news it will be here in a few weeks.
We’ve seen pico projectors on mobile phones before, but the S1000PJ puts an end to having to gather round your camera’s LCD to see what you’ve shot. Just put it in projector mode by pressing the button on the top, and set it up near a wall to see your pics or movies on the big screen. You can adjust the focus using the sliding bar on the top, and there’s even a stand and remote control bundled with it for proper armchair viewing.

We had a hands-on and were pretty impressed. The image is only VGA, so don’t expect HD quality, but it’s impressive considering it’s not much fatter than a regular compact camera. And you can’t beat it for convenience – pretty soon we’ll all be admiring our holiday snaps on the big screen on the plane back.
The specs aren’t too shabby either, with 12.1-megapixels, ISO 6400, 5x optical zoom. Scene Auto Selector mode takes care of the settings so you don’t have to worry about fiddling when shooting, and Skin Softening feature makes skin look clearer, so is a guaranteed favourite with friends.
It’ll be yours for £400 when it launches in September. Until then, check out the hands-on pics in our gallery.
