News@8pm: iPad price slash, HTC mobiles leaked

News@8pm

Welcome to your nightly round-up of the day's news and goings on courtesy of T3.com.

The price crash of the original iPad following the announcement of the iPad 2 is well underway, with peddlars of ridiculous deals Groupon teaming up with T-Mobile to offer the original iPad for only £49 on contract. But will anyone really want to be stuck on a two year contract with an iPad that's already looking a little shabby around the edges? Take a look at our iPad 2 unboxing video below to see what you'd be missing.

Still on the subject of the iPad, the tablet's own dedicated newspaper/magazine, The Daily, is set to zap itself over to UK iPads on June 2nd. The Daily has already been a success in the States, where issues cost around 14 cents per day (about eight or nine pence in Blighty).

Capcom and Sega have joined forces to aid the plight of those caught in the Japan earthquake by offering up some classic Megadrive games for iPhone and iPod touch, at discount prices, with all the sales going direct to charities helping the victims. The games, which include Street Fighter and Sonic 2, have also been discounted, if you're not of a naturally altruistic nature.

HTC's next lineup of mobiles has had images and specs leaked ahead of announcement, with the Pyramid, the Prime and the Ignite all papped and their specs outed. With HTC's stock of MWC models still only just arriving on the shelves, they won't be making a proper public appearance for some time, however.

Finally, EA label head Frank Gibeau stirred up the Wii 2 rumour pot in an interview with Industrygamers.com, hinting heavily that the follow up to Nintendo's 70-million selling Wii console would get an official announcement at this year's E3 conference in June. Nintendo are, of course, keeping schtum.
