News@8pm: Apple admits iPhone problem and more

Apple

Welcome to your nightly roundup of the day's news, reviews and goings on courtesy of T3.com.

It's been another busy day for the tech world - here's the best of the day's news in digestible format:

Apple, Apple, Apple. What have you done this time? Well, the Cupertino company has admitted it was wrong, that’s what. But certainly not how you’d think. Apple has continued to deny that iPhone 4 reception issues are hardware-related, suggesting that a software update will fix all. The company has also denied that a series of recent emails were the work of Steve Jobs, as the drama continues. Eastenders pales in comparison to this. In lighter news, it looks like the iTunes cloud-based streaming service is incoming, with sources close to Apple claiming it’ll be given the official nod in the next few months.

Google has slammed yesterday’s Android 3.0 Gingerbread rumours, rubbishing talk of a new UI and the OS being fragmented, so back to the drawing board it is. Yahoo! Mail and Messenger apps have been released for Android and Apple iOS, with the Android options optimised for the Motorola Droid, Google Nexus One and HTC Incredible. Nokia has come out fighting, with lofty plans for its Symbian future. The Finnish phone giant has declared its determination to climb back to the top of the mobile market. Also, MIT are developing what could be the best app ever – an eye-test add-on for your phone. It’ll take two minutes to spit out your prescription, leaving you to squint no more.

The Sony Dash has been unleashed from its US exclusive lockdown as the personal internet viewer prepares for an influx of global interest. HP has completed its acquisition of Palm, and is planning to use Palm’s webOS for netbooks, smartphones, and, surprise surprise, a webOS tablet. Elsewhere in the world of computing, Amazon.co.uk has been crowned as the top e-tailer in the UK.

We’ve kicked off your weekend in spectacular fashion by giving you 10 reasons to buy the Loewe Individual Slim Compose LED HDTV. Loewe has been producing gorgeous TVs for years, but the new Individual Slim Compose truly sets a new benchmark for chic design. Check it out and be wowed here.
