News@8 IFA Special: Panasonic, Sony and Epson releases

We give you all the latest IFA news from 3DTVs to the latest smartphones in this special edition of the News@8.

Panasonic goes 3D crazy at IFA: Panasonic has unveiled not one, but three new Plasma HD 3DTV’s. At the top of the pack are the two VT20’s available in 42 and 46-inches, offering full 2D-3D conversion, 1080p full HD 3D and a stonking 5:1,000,000 contrast ratio. As a more budget option, the TX-P42GT20 is available in 42-inches and doesn’t come with active shutter glasses. Away from 3D, and Panasonic has released a slew of brand new compacts: the FX700, FT10 and the FZ45. The FX700 distinguishes itself with 1080p recording, while the FT10 is a more rugged compact being shockproof to 1.5m and then finally there's the FZ45 which offers a stupidly high 24x optical zoom.

Epson says market isn’t ready for 3D projectors: Epson today showed off the EH-R2000 and the EH-R4000; its latest foray into the projector market. Both offering full HD with contrast ratios of 500,000:1 and 1,000,000:1 respectively, the projectors are the first examples of Epson’s Reflective Panel technology being put into action, and according to our people over in Berlin, it’s impressive to say the least. Epson also revealed that despite its position in the projector industry they would not be releasing any 3D projectors any time soon as they feel the ‘market isn’t ready.’

Samsung launches two new laptops: Samsung has officially unveiled its SF and NF Series laptops and netbooks at IFA today. The SF series is clearly a style conscious range of laptops sporting scratch-resistant casing with a choice of either matt black or brushed stainless steel. To back up those looks it’ll also have Intel i3 or i5 processors and will be available in three screen sizes. For the web lovers of you, Samsung also offers up the NF series: a range of netbooks which pack Atom processors and super high resolution screens.

Sony conveyor belt of new products at IFA: Sony’s latest collection of must-have tech included the Sony Bloggie Touch HD Pocket-Camcorder which offers up 1080p recording and 12.8MP stills. If you want something a little more upmarket then perhaps the Alpha A580 DSLR is more up your street with 1080i recording and 16.2MP images. However if watching rather than shooting is more your style you’ll be pleased to hear that Sony has launched its first on-demand media platform called Qriocity. It’ll offer online streaming of films, TV shows and music through your Bravia TVs, VAIO’s and PS3’s. Finally just to make sure you can get from A to B, Sony has unveiled the XNV series of AV units running TomTom. With widescreen displays and 5.1 ‘virtual’ surround sound these are the bespoke of satellite navigation.
