New PS3 models spotted

Model numbers point towards E3 upgrade

New look doubtful, but boost to innards expected.

With so much chatter about a new PSP emerging at E3, talk of a rejigged PS3 has been non-existent. Until now.

Over in the US, the FCC has unleashed four new model numbers, pointing towards two new editions of the PS3 rocking up next week. Two of the four touted are debug consoles, therefore suggesting two newer models are on the cards.

The model listed as CECH-2501B by the FCC is said to be the same as the other CECH-2501A model, expect it’ll have a different hard drive. That could well mean the PS3 getting even bigger than its current top end 250GB incarnation.

The changes are not expected to be cosmetic, with new chips likely to be the only other major tweak alongside the HDD boost. Of course, all will be revealed at E3, which gets under way next week. Stay tuned for all the news from the show as we get it.
