New Nintendo DSi launch: Everything you need to know
UK welcomes the arrival of the new Nintendo DSi with new hardware, new games, new price
The long wait has finally come to end: Nintendo has launched the brand new Nintendo DSi console in the UK today. Best of all, our friends across the pond who always get the best tech first have to sit tight while we get to play. Okay, they’ll have it on soon enough, but we still appreciate the gesture.

The new Nintendo DSi isn’t a generational leap beyond the classic Nintendo DS or DS Lite. In fact it’ll play most of the same games. However, it’s bringing plenty of new goodies to the table: it’s 12% thinner, sports a screen that’s 8% bigger and it even plays digital media including AAC audio files.
One of the biggest changes is the addition of two VGA digital cameras, one mounted on the outside edge and one on the inner hinge.
Another alteration is that the old GameBoy Advanced cartridge slot has been dropped in favour of a new SD card slot. This has the potential to bring the most sweeping changes to the console – along with digital media playback, Nintendo is using the extra storage to launch a new downloadable games and applications service, DSiWare. This move is cleared aimed at slowing the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch in its march up the handheld gaming charts.
The Nintendo DSi also comes with a brand new price tag. It’s £149.99 for the standard console pack, which includes a single stylus and AC power adapter.
