New iPhone shoots and uploads video?
Apple to cure last iPhone grumble?
With the iPhone 3.0 software bared for all to see, it’s now depressingly clear to all non-Mac heads that Apple is on the cusp of leaving the competition light-years behind. If it hadn’t already. There’s still a few minor gripes that can justify not owning one though. Well, we say ‘a few’; actually it’s more like one or two. Or possibly, one.
With cut, copy and paste in the pipeline, Bluetooth tethering and the other niceties all pencilled in for the next upgrade, it’s the elusive iPhone video recording that remains our final niggle. After all, 99% of other phones offer video recording. It might be grotesquely pixelated and look like a government-sponsored health advert, but at least it’s there. But on the iPhone (unless you’ve jailbroken it, of course), it simply hasn’t been an option.
Rumours stemming from Apple Insider now suggest that video is going to be the focus of the next iPhone upgrade. That’ll be version 3.0 of the hardware and it’s reasonable to expect it around the time the new software launches.
Adding weight to the iPhone Video argument is the fact that a ‘Publish Video’ option was unearthed inside the iPhone 3.0 Software SDK.
Additionally, the new iPhone isn’t solely expected to record video, it’s believed to be capable of publishing it ultra-fast too, thanks to another rumoured upgrade in the connectivity speeds. This may involve ultra-fast mobile broadband or 802.11n WiFi.
