New BBC mobile homepage goes live
Your BBC on your phone
Once upon a time, web browsing on your mobile phone was nothing more than a gimmick or an after-thought. Today it's big business, with most us using our phone for news, sport and entertainment catch-ups - something not lost on the BBC, which has re-launched its mobile site.
Now online in beta form, the new service is all about you. Or rather, all about your interests. Choose what your interests are and place them wherever you prefer. So if you are a business head, get the latest share moves at the top. Or if you're more of a movie buff, let the latest film reviews greet you as you log on. You can even localise the content, should your interests stretch little further than the end of the road. The Beeb even promises to slip iPlayer into the mix, although that's likely to depend on the phone you have in your hand.
Indeed, all the service right now is handset-dependent to some extent. According to the BBC: 'The new mobile site adapts automatically to give the best viewing experience for different handsets and networks.' But at the same time, there is a list of compatible phone and operating systems, including the iPhone, iPod Touch, Google Android, handsets using the Opera browser; all Nokia N Series and 'high-end' Nokias, Sony Ericsson and Samsung phones running the Net Front 3.3+ browser and 'some' Blackberry's 4.2+.
Confused? Don't be - just log onto www.bbc.co.uk and try it out to see if it works for you.
