Processor and graphics overhaul given to popular MacBook Pro

Apple has officially unveiled the newly updated MacBook Pro range featuring new high-speed Thunderbolt I/O technology and improved processor and graphics offerings.

With prices kicking off in the UK at a smidge under £1,000, the refreshed range of MacBook Pros will continue to feature Apple’s highly desirable design features and will stick with the current three 13-, 15- and 17-inch form factors.

Available to buy now the new 13-inch MacBook Pro comes in two configurations with the 2.3GHz Dual-Core Core i5 processor and 320GB hard drive model coming in at £999, £300 less than its £1,299 priced 2.7GHz, 500GB touting counterpart. Both 13-inch models will feature Intel HD Graphics 3000.

With all models coming equipped with Apple’s Mac OS X Snow Leopard operating system, the revamped laptop range with also feature a new front-mounted HD capable camera compatible with the company’s FaceTime video calling technology.

Speaking on the updates to the MacBook Pro range Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, Philip Schiller, announced: “The new MacBook Pro brings next generation dual and quad Core processors, high performance graphics, Thunderbolt technology and FaceTime HD to the great design loved by our pro customers.”

On the Thunderbolt tech inclusion Schiller said: “Thunderbolt is a revolutionary new I/O technology that delivers an amazing 10 gigabits per second and can support every important I/O standard which is ideal for the new MacBook Pro.” Capable of supporting Firewire and USB connections, the inclusion of the Thunderbolt port will offer users ultra high-speed data transfers between devices.

With two new 15-inch MacBook Pro models announced, wannabe owners of the 2.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 processor touting, AMD Radeon HD 6490M graphics and 500GB hard drive rocking model will have to fork out £1549. Those looking to plump for the 2.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, AMD Radeon HD 6750M and 750GB hard drive offering will need a spare £1849.

The one new 17-inch addition to the MacBook Pro range, priced at a hefty £2099, will come sporting a 2.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 processor, AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics and 750GB hard drive.
