Netflix to launch in the UK

TV show and film rental service is heading to British shores

The wait has paid off, no more will we watch enviously as those across the pond effortlessly stream films and TV straight to their iPads, iPhones and Macs

Netflix the internet streaming service is to launch in the UK and Ireland in early 2012, the service gives customers unlimited streaming of films and TV for a monthly subscription.

By paying monthly fee you can watch films and TV shows on anything from a laptop to a Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PS3 and even the Nintendo Wii. One of the key advantages with Netflix however is its compatibility with mobile devices, allowing you to stream any of the TV shows or films straight to the iPad 2 or iPhone.

With 25 million users already and having been streaming in the US since 2007, Netflix has had plenty of time to iron out any kinks which should mean that when it does land in early 2012 UK users will get the best experience possible. That said Nick Thomas a Principal Analyst at Informa believes that these figures are not indications of how well Netflix will do:

He believes that 'Netflix is very unlikely to dominate the UK market but it may shake it up', going on to highlight that 'success in the UK will depend not on its reputation, but on its catalogue, and its ability to quickly get onto consumer-facing platforms.'
