Netflix instant HD movie streaming coming to new device

HD movies headed to the PS3?

Anyone with an Xbox 360 and connection to the LIVE service will know that - whilst the console wasn’t blessed with Blu-Ray support - Steve Ballmer and crew have made up for it with instantly streaming full HD content from online movie provider Netflix.

Up until now, this deal has been a 360 exclusive. Things rarely stay exclusive forever, though, especially when there’s profit to be made. Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix has gone on record as saying that he‘ll be bringing the company’s movie streaming app to a mystery device with a "material installed base."

Undoubtedly this is good news for the owners of whichever device Netflix ends up on, but the obvious question remains: which device?

It could be iPhone, Android, PC, Mac or any number of set top boxes, but our money would be on the Sony PS3. Since the PS3 went slim and dropped a few pounds off the price tag to boot, sales have sky-rocketed. This has got to be a tempting prospect for Netflix, especially with the PS3’s sterling online service as is. We’ll let you know which ‘mystery device’ it is as soon as we do.
