With the retailer’s online outlet having offered pre-orders of the Motorola Xoom for some weeks now ahead of a “release in the 1st week of April (date TBC),” PC World has today dropped the price of the Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet suggesting pre-release orders have been lower than expected.

Although that TBC release date is still awaiting confirmation, with a delivery date on the site’s shop predicting a April 9th doorstep arrival, PC World has lowered the Xoom’s pre-order price from the original £499.99 to £479.99 for the standard 32GB Wi-Fi only model.

Whilst this new lower price brings the 10.1-inch, dual-core, 1GB of RAM touting Xoom almost in line with the 32GB Wi-Fi only iPad 2, still 99 pence more expensive, the pre-release price drops suggests the arrival of the second-generation Apple tablet has severely hampered the arrival of the first Android Honeycomb device.

Can the Xoom’s new price point help it challenge the iPad atop the tablet market? Let us know what you think via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.
