After much rumour and speculation as to when the Motorola Milestone would arrive in the UK, the answer has finally been revealed and the long-awaited answer is, well, today.

With many online retailers such as Play.com and Expansys now offering the new Motorola Milestone XT720 for pre-order ahead of launch tomorrow, UK online retailer Clove has jumped the gun assuring customers that orders of the latest Motorola handset will start shipping today.

This overly eager, day early launch comes at an added price, however. Whilst Play.com and Expansys are both offering the XT720 SIM-free for £360, Clove’s price is set at £381. If you are willing to fork out £21 more for a few hours headstart, you must really want yourself a new Motorola.

The lack of a mobile network provider in this list of available stockists follows Motorola’s decision at the launch of the XT720 that to get the device to market as soon as possible, it would forgo the usual routes instead opting for a direct-to-web retailers approach.

Despite this brush off of leading network providers, the Milestone XT720 marks Motorola’s most hardware-heavy handset to date. Packing not only a 3.7-inch WVGA screen and the Android 2.1 OS, the XT720’s camera capabilities set it apart from previous models. The handset’s 8MP camera and 720p HD video recording capabilities make the XT720 a snappers delight and a giant leap in the right direction for a resurgent Motorola.
