Motorola goes landline

New "MOTOLIVN" wireless handsets aren't tethered to a phone point.

Motorola has taken a break from mobile phones to launch MOTOLIVN, a spanking new range of traditional landline handsets.

Well, we say traditional but these have got one nifty feature that breaks from the norm - you don't have to plug their charging cradle into your phone point. Instead, a base station plugs into the wall, then all you need to do is hook the charging cradle up to a power socket somewhere. Handy.

The phones themselves are pretty straightforward, if rather nifty-looking with it. The D7 series are fairly basic, but the D8 comes with contacts listing (including a SIM reader to save you having to type them all in yourself) and better sound quality. One version of the D8 even offers Skype access, letting you make free calls and send SMS texts.

MOTOLIVN will launch in October, with prices to be confirmed.
