Motorola Droid launching in Europe November 9th

An Android phone like no other, under a different name for Europe

Just three days after the Droid is due to go on sale in the US, Motorola will be launching the same device in Germany, marked as the 'Milestone'.

Why the name change? Goodness knows, but as Motorola had to license the name 'Droid' from George Lucas's LucasFilm, perhaps there were difficulties in Germany. It's not the first time Motorola's given its products a different name for Europe, with their first Android device, the CLIQ, being called DEXT here.

According to a leaked page on the German O2 website (these leaked websites are becoming more and more frequent - see the LG GW620 from last week), the Milestone will cost 404.20 Euros upfront and will go on sale on the 9th of November.

With the first reviews coming in from the US for the Droid, it's shaping up to be one of the hottest mobiles of the year. It could even be a contender for the 2010 T3 Gadget Awards, with the HTC Hero stealing the Gadget of the Year and Phone of the Year awards. Engadget claimed it's "easily the best Android phone to date", and Boy Genius Report gushed that they "really enjoyed using the Motorola Droid and think you’re going to love it".
