Monitor Audio unveils HD home cinema range

Great sound, great looks

You might have a stylish super-sized TV, but do you have the sound to match? If not, the HD home cinema range could be worth a look, offering high-end looks on the par with the audiophile-friendly output. And with style at the forefront of the design, this is home cinema kit that doesn't scream 'film nerd'.

The R270HD is a pair of super-slim floorstanding speakers, promising a full range for both audio and video set-ups, helped along by a 1-inch Gold C-CAM tweeter, magnetically-shielded drivers and high-grade capacitors and inductors for increased clarity and less distortion. Choose a wood or lacquered finish to match your interior, with prices around the £600 mark.

If that isn't minimalist enough, you might want to check out the R one HD sound bar, which offers surround sound without the pile of spaghetti. It intergrates the left, centre and right channels in one cabinet, the centre housing twin 4-inch MMPII mid/bass drivers and a 1-inch C-CAM gold dome tweeter, while the left and right offer up single 4-inch MMPII drivers and 1-inch tweeters, combining to offer up all of the sound with less of the clutter for an outlay of £450.

And it gets even smaller than that with the R45HD. Described as an 'ultra compact' speaker (just 100mm square), it's the speaker you hear, but don't see. Yet it still manages to pack in a 3-inch MMPII cone mid-bass driver and a rear-firing 3/4-inch C-CAM gold dome tweeter, combining to power an audio set-up that punches well above its weight. Many colours again to choose from, all retailing for £180 per pair.
