Modern Warfare 2 is 'biggest product launch ever'

Modern Warfare 2, the latest installment in the Call of Duty video game series, will become the biggest entertainment product launch in history with half-a-billion dollars grossed within the first 24-hours of sales.

 

The incredible figures will smash box-office takings for every single movie and music launch ever, and almost doubles the first-day receipts for 2008's big gaming hit Grand Theft Auto IV.

Publishers Activision today revealed that 750,000 copies of the FPS had been snapped up in pre-orders, in the UK alone and a whopping three million copies are expected to flood British homes by the end of the week.

 

A stream of controversy over the game's violent content has failed to dent sales figures and it's likely the extra hype led to greater queues at UK stores which opened at midnight to allow gamers to get ahold of a copy at the earliest possible opportunity.
