Netflix vs Lovefilm
Heavy Metal fans can now listen to all of Metallica’s 30 year strong back catalogue on music streaming service Spotify.
Drummer Lars Ulrich got on stage himself as part of the announcement at an event in the New York this evening.
He said: “Metallica has always tried to be in control of the way we present our music to our fans, which is why we’ve waited to see the way these online retailers and streaming services operate and gauge the overall fan experience before deciding to include our music. We now feel that Spotify not only has a proven track record, but is by far the best music streaming service. We are beyond psyched to unleash our music through their platform.”
Elsewhere Spotify announced a number of new discovery and networking tweaks to the service, include a Follow tab which allows you to get musical suggestions from artists, friends, and other entities.
There is also further Facebook integration, a Discover tab (which works in a similar way to Amazon’s recommendation bar) and push notifications for new artists.
