Konami has announced at the Gamescom video games expo that Metal Gear Rising Revengeance will be available to buy next year on February 22nd.
The announcement for Revengeance was accompanied by the release of a brand new trailer and a raft of new screenshots. Videogame website Eurogamer.net report that the series' creator, Hideo Kojima tweeted a picture of the release date on a placard at Gamescom.
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is the first brand new entry in the Metal Gear series since Metal Gear Solid: Peacwalker was released for the PSP in 2010. It's also the first game in the franchise to be developed for Konami by Osaka-based Platinum Games, the developer behind titles such as MadWorld, Bayonetta and Vanquish. Platinum Games has a reputation for releasing critically acclaimed games that aren't massive selling titles, many of which have been published by Sega.
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is also something of a departure from the stealth-based gameplay and stoic storytelling that the Metal Gear series is renowned for. Rather, it seems to be pitched as a visceral hack-and-slash title, with fast-paced action-packed gameplay.
