Meet the real Woofer

It's a speaker in the shape of a headless dog. What more could you ask for?

Nope, you're not looking at the latest bizarre genetically engineered canine cyborg from Japan. This is the cleverly-named Woofer, a dog with a speaker cone where his head should be.

It's the work of Dutch design agency Buro Vormkrijgers, who describe it as "functional kitsch". "By adding a function to an otherwise 'grotesque' object," says the website, "it acquires new aesthetic values, becoming an object of desire."

Well, you can look at the pictures and decide that for yourself. If you agree and fancy replacing your B&Ws with a headless mutt, head on over to the website and register your interest. Oh, and by the way, the Woofer will soon be supplemented by a bird-shaped desktop speaker dubbed - you guessed it - the Tweeter. Oh, those crazy Dutch funsters!
