Mass Effect 3 doesn't arrive in the UK until Friday, but iPhone and iPad owners can tide themselves over with the launch of Mass Effect: Infiltrator, which ties into the console game
Ahead of Friday's long-awaited Mass Effect 3 UK launch for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, iOS users can get their hands-on a completely new title for iPhone and iPad.
EA has released the £4.99 Mass Effect: Infiltrator as a companion for the full console game, which went on sale in the United States on Tuesday to rave reviews.
The game is unique in that, despite being unrelated to the console title's storyline, any intelligence you collect can be uploaded in order to boost your Galaxy Readiness Rating as you play on your Mass Effect. By completing the game, you'll also boost your War Assets for the final battle.
As the title suggests, as a rogue Cerebrus agent, your job is to deliver secret research to the Alliance after deciding that the director of a secret facility has gone too far with scientific experiments on aliens. You've had enough and have vowed to bring down Cerebrus.
The game promises "groundbreaking graphics and intensified audio, enjoy a console-like experience that marks the next leap in iOS gameplay," allowing your character to move freely through a "fully realised Cerebrus base."
You'll have to navigate boss battles and take on enemies familiar to franchise veterans, while making use of tap and swipe controls on your iPad's touchscreen.
If you simply cannot wait until Friday for Mass Effect 3 to hit your console, here's a great chance to get started with boosting your campaign before the weekend rolls around.
