Outdoors company Magellan have crammed a ridiculous amount of features into the eXplorist GPS range
Never get lost in the outdoors again with the launch of a range of hand held GPS devices by outdoors company Magellan.
The eXplorist range of products are crammed full of technology to help you find your way in the great outdoors, with the eXplorist 510, 610 and 710 models all featuring high-sensitivity GPS, touchscreen, easy-to-read mapping and accurate navigation.
Each of the devices also feature a 3.2 mega-pixel camera and microphone, allowing you to record images, videos, and voice notes that also note your location, making it easier than ever to record and share your adventure back home. The products come preloaded with Magellan’s World Edition map software, giving you the complete road network for the US, Canada, Western Europe and Australia, as well as water features, urban and rural land use. And if Ordnance Survey mapping is more your bag, the software is downloadable on the company’s website.
In addition, the eXplorist 610 and 710 feature a 3-axis electronic compass and a barometric altimeter to provide you with precise orientation, accurate elevation information, and even weather pattern tracking.
If this isn't enough for you, the eXplorist 710 brings together a complete package of on-road and off-road navigation, with the Taiwanese company cramming into the device their highly detailed Summit Series topographic map and its City Series turn-by-turn software, meaning you can leave the TomTom at home and use the 710 to get to your outdoor destination.
For those who like to combine games into their outdoor pursuits, the eXplorist GC is aimed those who take part in geocaching, a high-tech treasure hunt using GPS technology to hide and find physical objects and solve location-based puzzles. Think Crystal Maze in the Lake District.
Magellan has also released a special ToughCase that 'outdoor proofs' your iPhone and iPod touch. The rock hard protective cases double the battery life of your treasured Apple product whilst increasing its GPS signal, and allow it to survive half an hour under a metre of water- plenty of time to fish it out of that lake you dropped it in whilst fishing, or that clumsy lunchtime pint.
The Magellan eXplorist range starts at £179.99, with the 710 model costing £499.99 and the toughcase costing £179.99.
