Update: Read our MacBook Pro 2012 release date, price and specs announcement story

Here we go again. Just as the MacBook Pro 2012 rumours continue to gather momentum, another supposed leak of the blower’s upcoming device is doing the rounds.

This time, the Apple-dedicated blog 9to5Mac claims it has landed a major scoop: a full list of leaked specifications of a new Mac Pro and a refreshed MacBook Pro.

Predicting the release of two new models of the powerful, aluminium cased machines, the blog claims one version of the Mac Pro will sport a 3.2 GHz quad-core CPU, a sizeable 6GB of RAM and a 1TB hard-drive with an ATI Radeon 5770.

But it is the other model which truly updates the Mac Pro by supplying a 2.4 GHz 12-core processor, complete with 12GB of RAM and the same graphics card and hard-drive as the basic model.

This is a Mac Pro refresh to appeal to the professionals, something Apple has been accused of neglecting recently.

Focusing on its casual, iPad-fascinated audience, It should ensure that the Mac Pro is, once again, at the very top of every industry professional’s mind.

The blog also claims that the 15inch versions will feature an eye-watering retina display – something which has been predicted for some time now.

Citing ‘reliable sources’, the 9to5mac claims the same laptops will also come with either a 2.3 GHz quad-core CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 500 GB hard-drive or a 2.6 GHz CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 750GB hard-drive (with  possible upgrade to a 2.7 GHz and 1TB hard-drive).

The 13-inch MacBook Pro is not confirmed to feature the retina display but will also feature some minor updates including a 2.5GHz dual-core CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard-drive, or a 2.9GHz dual-core CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 750GB hard-drive.

The proximity to the unveiling and the nature of the minor updates predicted are what gives them their credibility, or perhaps is just the rose-tint of hope.

Finally, as well as a specs boost for the MacBook Pro, the blog predicts a not-so-unexpected-but-certainly-unwanted price jump for the latest range – reaching in excess of $4k.

This sounds a little pricey and hopefully this particular rumour will be proved wrong as Tim Cook takes to the stage very shortly.
