Netflix vs Lovefilm
LOVEFiLM, Amazon’s streaming on demand media service, has announced a deal with Miramax, which will bring the studio’s critically acclaimed films to its subscribers.
The new Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) partnership will give subscribers in the UK and Germany instant access to Miramax films this summer.
New titles on Lovefilm include the Oscar-winning drama, There Will Be Blood, Martin Scorsese's biopic about Howard Hughes, The Aviator, and Robert Rodriguez's adapatation of Frank Miller's hard-boiled crime-noir comic books, Sin City. Several of Quentin Tarantino's cult classic films will also be made available, including Kill Bill, Kill Bill 2 and jackie Brown.
Lovefilm's Managing Director, Jim Buckle said: "We are thrilled to bring Miramax films to our customers."
"This exciting deal will enable us to deliver even more high-quality content to our members and reinforce, once again, our leading position as the first choice subscription service when it comes to exceptional range and unbeatable value for money.”
The new partnership with Miramax is just the latest in a series of film and TV content deals that Lovefilm has signed in the last 12 months with major studios including Twentieth Century Fox, NBC Universal, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Disney, ABC, BBC, ITV, STUDIOCANAL and eOne.
The move could be seen as part of a continuing attempt by Lovefilm to stave off competition from Netflix, which was launch in the UK earlier this year.
Lovefilm Instant is available on the PC, Mac and iPad as well as on PS3 via the Playstation Network and Xbox 360 via Xbox Live.
