London may get World Cup 2010 action in HD

Beeb want South Africa 2010 to get HD treatment

Fabio Capello and his WAG-free England team have started their World Cup campaign in such blistering fashion, that the BBC are hoping London can follow the boys in South Africa in glorious HD splendour.

The Beeb have requested that spectrum frequencies involved in bringing Freeview HD to the entire country can be temporarily moved to focus its attentions on densely populated areas like London to receive Freeview HD TV quicker than planned.

The regulators of all things television-orientated, Ofcom, have outlined a proposal to pilot a scheme to bring HD services in time for the 2010 World Cup, two years earlier than planned for the capital.

Ofcom have looked to London as a location to speed up the Freeview HD services, mainly as it possesses a population that could field a first eleven thousands of times over, but more for the reason that the BBC have identified it as a prime HD spot.

Freeview HD services were not due to reach London until 2012, to tie in with the Olympics, but the Beeb it seems have been swept up like the rest of the country by Capello-induced hysteria.
