Major Nelson clarifies position after Xbox Support messaging mix up

Microsoft has said that Xbox One owners banned from Live will not lose access to their games.

Concerns were raised after Xbox Support said that any licences associated with an Xbox Live account are forfeited if banned.

@dohertymark If your account is banned, you also forfeit the licenses to any games that have licenses tied to it as listed in the ToU. ^AC

However, Microsoft's director of programming Larry Hyrb – known as Major Nelson – told an interview with Reddit Games that there had been some confusion.

Referring to the later clarification from Xbox Support, the answer had referred to the current policies to do with the Xbox 360. That was despite the question clearly being about the Xbox One.

Speaking during the interview, Hryb clarified the situation on the Xbox One. "Absolutely not, you will always have access to the games you purchased."

However, he did admit that he was unsure of what the situation would be if Microsoft's authentication servers were down. "I'll get the real answer, I just don't know it yet," he said.
