LG HR400 Freeview+ Blu-ray player launches

The HDD recorder goes Blu, writes David Walker

Is it a HDD recorder with Blu-ray or a Blu-ray player that records? We don't know, but we like the idea of two boxes squeezing into one with the LG HR400.

As a Blu-ray player it's worth a look, with 1080p upscaling of your old discs via HDMI, DVFX multimedia software for improved imagery and BD Live heading up the list of features. But there are many more reasons to pick up this particular shiny black box. How about recording your favourite Freeview TV shows? it can receive over 40 of your chosen channels, able to pause and rewind live TV or save the pick of the week's telly onto the 160GB hard drive. Alternatively, if you're going away, there's an eight-day programme guide to schedule anything you miss as you sun yourself on the continent.

Still not happy? Well, how about throwing YouTube into the mix. Yes, ad breaks will never be the same again, just flick onto YouTube to take in anything from classic movie clips and music videos through to comedy cats and TV wannabes - and not a PC in sight.

According to LG, the HR400 will be available at the end of July 2009, price still to be confirmed.
