Kodak launches the Zi8 pocket HD camcorder
Outdoes the Flip in HD stakes and for less cash, writes David Walker
Pretty much a year since we saw the Zi6, Kodak has launched another pocket camcorder, the Zi8, this time boosting full HD and adding a dose of style to the mix - for less than the price of a Flip too.
Take your pick from aqua, raspberry and black for the casing, with the Zi8 offering all the basics and more for video and stills, throwing in a few tricks for social networkers too. That means 1080p high definition video capture (a step up from the 720p found on the Zi6) with built-in electronic image stabilisation and face tracking for both movies and for the 5-megapixel 16:9 widescreen stills too. There's also a 2.5-inch colour LCD screen and a swing-out USB arm for easy uploading and charging.
Talking of uploading, the Zi8 also offers easy upload to Facebook and YouTube, which means you can have last night's drunken antics online before your victims even stir the day after. Nice. Storage, as you might expect, is via SD card. If all that appeals, Kodak will unleash this on the UK in September 2009, priced around the £149.99 mark.
