Kindle outsells Toy Story 3 DVD for Christmas shopping

The Amazon Kindle e-reader was the most popular item bought during Christmas shopping on Amazon.

The Amazon Kindle tops the list of Amazon's top 10 Christmas sales.

According to Amazon, 27 items were bought every second during the peak of Christmas buying period, while 6 December was the busiest day with 2.3 million items bought.

The Kindle e-reading device pushed the Toy Story 3 DVD to second spot, Call of Duty Black Ops to third and Take That's latest album Progress to fourth. The movie Inception was relegated to fifth spot.

The remainder of the top 10 was made up by Jamie's 30-Minute Meals - Jamie Oliver, Now That's What I Call Music! 77, Eclipse, Downton Abbey Series 1 and Just Dance 2 (Wii).

Brian McBride, Managing Director of said, "This was the first Christmas that Kindle and Kindle 3G have been available from and the demand has been exceptional."

The Amazon Kindle is priced at £109.
