JVC's NX-BD3 Blu-ray home theatre system gets DivX certification (IFA 2008)

Remember: piracy is wrong, kids

JVC may be a little late to the party, but at least it's making a memorable entrance with its first Blu-ray home theatre system. The NX-BD3 is an all in one package featuring a Blu-ray player and a 2.1 virtual surround sound system.

Blu-ray certainly isn't the only trick up its sleeve- JVC also took the opportunity in Berlin to announce that the NX-BD3 is fully DivX certified and will happily play downloaded digital video content alongside the latest high definition discs. On top of that, the system is compatible with DLNA, making it possible to connect to your home computer and stream music, photos, and MPEG videos direct to your living room through either wired or wireless networks (there's an optional wireless adapter).

Annoyingly, the same network tool will not allow for DivX files to be streamed over your network, however we're hoping that this is simply a result of late certification and can be ironed out in subsequent models or even just a straightforward firmware update. In the meantime you need to make do by burning the files to DVD.

Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic II sound is powered by four 55 watt internal amps and given voice by a 200 watt sub and stereo speakers. These sport two drivers that enable them to create the sensation of surround sound with turning your lounge into a writhing mass of speaker cables.

The JVC NX-BD3 will become available from September and will cost around £700.
